Good Afternoon All,
Swindon Library have emailed me with the following request
We are writing to announce a confirmed date for a 2010 local history event:
Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th June 2010
This event will be held at Swindon Central Library.
We are inviting local groups, societies and clubs to join us in a weekend event commemorating those Swindon men and women of all nationalities who have served in the armed forces.
Furthermore, it would celebrate those from overseas who served and later settled in Swindon, as well as “home front” experiences and stories.
This event will expand upon the excellent work on World War I undertaken by Mark Sutton and will cover all conflicts to date.
Local history and heritage groups are invited to set up a stall and/or present material relevant to the event.
Please feel free to forward this message to your members or other groups whom we may have missed.
We would like expressions of interest from those who wish to have some form of presence at the event, provide materials for display, or take part in some other way.
We are always looking for good ideas!
One aim is to ask the public for information about those who served to create a database/archive materials for the library – especially for World War II onwards.
I would think we could offer a few talks or maybe a stand for one of the two days but I will need your help if you’re local to Swindon.
If you would like to help and are free over that weekend please let us know.
